2007 Fish Painting Techniques with Bob Berry and Mike Orthober
Every fish carver develops their own method for achieving realistic painting finishes. These two World Champion artists, Bob Berry of California and Mike Orthober of Wisconsin, approach painting in very different ways. In this dual demonstration, Bob and Mike paint side-by-side as they explain their procedures and techniques for painting carved fish. Using half-casts as their canvas, Bob Berry paints a golden trout with hand brushes, while Mike Orthober paints a lake trout using an airbrush. Along the way they cover reference, paints, color blending, spots and vermiculation, and their personal painting philosophies. Recorded live at the 2007 World Fish Carving Championships. Approximate running time: 1:48.
