Shane Smith

The capercaillie on the cover by Shane Smith, who is featured in this issue's gallery, was photographed by Ken Edwards during the 2009 NTA in Huntsville, AL. It did not win any major awards of "accolades," as Shane described it, but the mount itself and the composition along with its habitat garnered a lot of attention at that convention. When we discussed this issue's gallery and cover with Shane, he said, "I think you have a good photo of this mount in your files from the NTA...it has always benn a customer favorite in our showroom here at Artistic Compositions." This is one of Europe's most coveted game birds and it is now the first to capture the cover of BREAKTHROUGH.
