ON THE COVER
Nikkie Carter
This premature Burchell’s zebra foal was mounted by Nickie Carter of Bogart, Georgia. Nickie entered it in the World Title Master Division of the 2013World Taxidermy Championships. This is a single ribbon division where strong entries may score in the nineties and yet not receive a ribbon. The category in which the zebra foal competed, Medium-Small Mammals, was one of the most competitive at the 2013 show with 20 entries in that category alone and 11 of those entries scoring in the nineties. Nickie placed second in the subcategory with a score of 95 and tied with Ashley Barrett of Pennsylvania for the third highest score in the category. One other entry had a 97 and two others had 96. Those three entries won Best, Second, and Third in World. Nickie’s entry had everything it takes to be competitive in this division, including a custom-made mannikin from a carcass cast. This is a strong example of how difficult it is to win a Best in World and how prestigious that title is.
