Every other year we get really excited when it’s time to feature one of the many fish carvings from the World Fish Carving Championships. Is it any wonder why the reef fish categories always make it to our final list? All the reef fish entries and many more from other categories of the 2013 show were all outstanding and beautiful works of art, but our pick was this entry by Michael Buelna of Orland, California. His wood sculpture of tangs and a green sea turtle captured the awesome beauty of this underwater world. It earned a second place in the World Title Open Level. You have got to appreciate what these artists are doing. Starting next issue World Champion Bob Berry will start a series of articles detailing start to finish what you need to do to be a competitive fish carver. If you ever had a urge to tackle this area of wildlife art, Bob’s experience and insight will get you there the right way. We welcome Bob back to our honor roll of writers.
