2019 Breakthrough Awards, Part 1

2019 Breakthrough Awards, Part 1

Publisher’s note: We had a tremendous response from the many talented winners of the Breakthrough Award for Judges’ Choice Best of Show. With so many excellent professional photos and excellent write-ups about their awards, it filled 15 dedicated pages, too many to fit into this one issue. Instead of running photos small and cutting text so that we could reduce the page numbers, we decided to honor the winners with a two-part series which will continue next issue.

Featured winners from 2019 in this issue:

  • NTA  Clint Rickey
  • New Zealand—Louise Pearson
  • Australia—Ben Carillo
  • Canada—Georgie Elekes
  • Alabama—Ryan Searce
  • Arizona—Terry Johnson
  • California—Seth Lane
  • Colorado—Doug Barnes
  • Florida—Mike Mizelle
  • Illinois—Bruce Owens
  • Indiana—Chip Wendt
  • Kansas—Cory Foth
  • Kentucky—Butch Irwin
  • Louisiana—Lee Duet

Waterfowl Photo Reference Study: Teal Part III

Waterfowl Photo Reference Study: Teal Part III

by Larry Blomquist

This will be the final part of my three-part reference articles on teal of the world. There are more species and subspecies, but I could not find reference for everyone that is listed in scientific reports. I have featured most that I feel might find their way to a taxidermy studio. In this study you will see photo reference of the following species:

  • Marbled teal
  • Puna teal
  • Red-billed teal
  • Ringed teal
  • Silver teal
  • Yellow-billed Teal

TAXIDERMY HALL OF FAME 2019 INDUCTEES

by Ken Edwards

In April of 2019, the 18-member selection committee of the Taxidermy Hall of Fame narrowed down the list of six highly qualified nominees to the two people who became the latest inductees into the Taxidermy Hall of Fame. The class of 2019 was announced to the public during the awards banquet at the World Show in May, and the induction ceremony was held in conjunction with the National Taxidermists Association awards banquet in July in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The new recipients of this honor were Cary Cochran of Ohio and Mike Orthober of Wisconsin. To subscribe or renew, call 800-783-7266 or order online at www.breakthroughmagazine.com.

Professional Standards for Shipping, Part 1: Customizing Leg Rods

Professional Standards for Shipping, Part 1: Customizing Leg Rods

by World Champion Bill Neuman

Shipping isn’t just about boxing, crating, or loading a trailer. It goes back further and starts with a solid foundation, in our case, mammals with solid leg rods and solid neck supports to aid in strength during the transportation of the specimen.
